SEATTLE – There’s something magical about a golden hour photoshoot at Golden Gardens Park — especially when the evening includes a glowing sunset over the Olympic Mountains, a star basketball player, and a few family members along for the fun. As a Seattle sports photographer who specializes in senior portraits, this shoot was the perfect blend of sports portraits and soft, cinematic light.
We kicked off the session in the late afternoon, with the sun still high enough to give us clean, bright shots. Golden Gardens Park offers a diverse mix of locations that make it a dream for any Seattle senior portrait photographer. We moved from the sandy beach to lush tree-lined areas, capturing different vibes with every outfit change. Whether it was casual gear, a more formal look, or basketball-ready attire, each wardrobe swap gave us a fresh angle on this senior’s personality and achievements.
As the sun began its slow descent behind the Olympic Mountains, we shifted into golden hour — that sweet spot where everything is bathed in warm, golden tones. It’s the ideal lighting for senior portraits, and it added a stunning glow to every image. One of my favorite moments was capturing this student-athlete framed by the golden light bouncing off the water, highlighting her Cornell sweatshirt.
We also made use of Golden Gardens’ natural variety — stepping off the beach to grab portraits by a rugged brick wall that added contrast and texture. Then we found a tucked-away basketball court, the perfect place to highlight not just athleticism but personality — intensity, focus, and joy all wrapped into a few powerful frames.
This senior portrait session was extra special because it also turned into a mini family shoot. That’s one of the things I love most about being a Seattle photographer: making space for moments that matter. We captured a series of posed family portraits that added emotional depth and made the evening even more meaningful.
We wrapped up the shoot with a few dusk shots, leaning into the cooler tones of the evening for a dramatic, editorial-style finish. The final gallery included vibrant sports portraits, glowing golden hour portraits, and heartfelt family moments — a complete story of this senior’s personality, passions, and the people who support her.
